Princess

My heart felt like it was about to leap out of my chest as I waited for that bitch to read the results of Tre’s paternity test over the phone. She was on speaker and the anxiety had been killing me. I just wished the hoe would get that shit over with.

“According to the test Tre, you are ninety-nine percent Melody’s father. A copy of the result has been mailed to you from the lab also, but obviously I got mine first. There is a number for you to call and confirm.”

That heifer sounded all happy and shit while I stood there with my mouth wide open. Tre looked shocked as well, but obviously he wasn’t as sure as he thought he was about that child not being his. It was like I was stuck in place and I couldn’t move. My world had been rocked and hers had changed for the better.

“Okay, well, let us process this. Uh, we’ll be in touch soon,” Tre said as he stared at me with regret now etched on his face.

“Hmm, yeah, a’ight, but if you don’t be in touch I will. You do have a daughter to take care of,” that bitch just had to point out.

As I rolled my eyes I couldn’t help but press the END button on her ass.

“She ain’t yours huh?” My tone was dripping with anger and sarcasm.

“I didn’t think it was possible Princess. For real babe. I know it was a long time ago, but I also know that I wore a condom. I didn’t lie to you.” He reached out to grab my hand, but I pulled it away.

“You didn’t lie to me?” I shook my head. “Tre, I know how you used to be. We never used condoms and…”

“That was only wit’ you P. Shit, you gotta believe me. Maybe the condom broke and I didn’t know…”

“Miss me with the bullshit Tre. A nigga knows when a condom breaks. Your dick goes from covered to uncovered. I ain’t a man, but common sense tells me that shit would feel different as hell.”

He rubbed his face in frustration. “I’m sorry P. I never meant for any of this to happen.”

“Now we have to explain to the twins that they have a sister they never knew about. How the fuck do we even begin to have that conversation with them? Fuck your apology Tre. This shit not only affects us, but it’s affects our kids too.”

The tears that I’d been holding in about the situation suddenly broke like a dam. The sight of them really got to Tre and I could tell, but there wasn’t shit he could say or do to make it right. Nothing.

“All we can do is move forward from here P. You’re my wife and I love you. It isn’t like I had some long, drawn out affair and had a love child. This happened years ago and I wish we’d found out about her sooner. Then it wouldn’t seem so bad.
